Danny O'Brien's Cup Favourite On Target
With Russian Camelot (Camelot-Lady Babooshka, by Cape Cross) and Vow and Declare (Declaration of War-Geblitzt, by Testa Rossa) in his stable, Danny O’Brien has a strong team for this year’s spring carnival, and he talked to racing.com about how they are going at this stage. “I have been down on Thirteenth Beach with them every morning for the last three or four weeks and they couldn't be in better shape," O'Brien said. "Both horses are in really, really good order. They do plenty of work down here, don't worry. They're working harder here than they will at any stage during the spring. But they're not going to run until September. We think the Makybe is probably the kick-off for both of them at this stage.” South Australian Derby winner Russian Camelot (see dazzling maiden win below) is the $11 favourite for the Gr1 Melbourne Cup, while Vow and Declare is at $26 currently to repeat last year’s win. Others of interest in his stable are VRC Oaks winner Miami Bound (Reliable Man-Arapaho Miss, by Danehill Dancer) who will likely run at Flemington on August 8, while O’Brien said, "We have got a lot of rising 3YOs that are going to kick off for us in August/September that we really like."
