Zac Purton Grabs Fourth HKJC Jockey Title
With a double at Sha Tin on Sunday, Australian jockey Zac Purton has claimed his fourth Hong Kong Jockey’s Championship, reports scmp.com. Leading by eight wins heading into Sunday’s meeting, it would have taken a miracle for Joao Moreira to catch him. Moreira won the first race, but Purton won the second with only seven races remaining in Moreira’s season. “Every one is special in its own way but as I’ve said, this one felt like it was a tougher fight so it means a lot,” Purton said of his fourth title to go with his wins in 2013-14, 2017-18 and 2018-19. The wins on Fast Most Furious (Lope de Vega-Al Basar, by Sahm) and Mr Aldan (Jet Spur-Besame Mucho, by Encosta de Lago) took Purton’s season tally to 145 wins, while Moreira (who is suspended for the final meeting of the season next Wednesday) rode three winners to take his season total to 138.
