Viridine To Call Melbourne Home for 6 Weeks

Friday, 10th July 2020

A decision by trainer James Cummings to send four-time stakes winner Viridine to Melbourne on Wednesday night came with a caveat. The 5YO son of Poet's Voice and Anabaa mare Patina will represent Godolphin in Saturday's Gr3 Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m), however due to new rules imposed by Racing NSW he is precluded from returning to New South Wales for at least 6 weeks whilst greater Melbourne is in lock-down, however it could be for an indeterminate time should the situation worsen. Well travelled Viridine, who has also been plying his trade in Perth and Adelaide this season, returned to winning form on 20 June when first home in the Winter Dash at Randwick. Godolphin trainer James Cummings is brimming with confidence, telling AAP,  “His Randwick win was very satisfying. To turn the tables on some of his rivals there with a big weight, and on a heavy track at the 1200 metres, was a very good effort… He’s continued to build good confidence and he’s been up and about since the Randwick win, so I’m sending him down to Melbourne satisfied that he’s capable of performing to the standard he’s set for himself.”
