David Hayes to Train French Derby Placegetter
Trainer David Hayes confirmed French Derby runner-up The Summit (Wootton Bassett-Acola, by Acatenango) will join his Hong Kong stable for the new season, reports racing.com. "If he had won, he wasn't (coming to Hong Kong) so it was like the perfect result," Hayes said from Hong Kong on Monday. "I think it was the deal the owners did that he would remain in Europe if he won. He's a good-looking horse. I had a good look at him last night as he was walking around and he took the eye, so it's a wonderful pick-up." The Summit will arrive in Hong Kong in the August shipment from Europe. The Summit won over a mile as a 2YO and ran third in the Gr3 Prix de Conde from four starts at that age. As a 3YO, so far, he has a win and three seconds from four starts, with his win being in the Gr3 Prix de Fontainebleau, and seconds in the Listed Prix Omnium II, and Gr1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains and last weekend's Gr1 Prix du Jockey Club (see below).
