William Hill UK to Merge Online and Retail
UK bookmaker William Hill has announced they will merge their UK online and retail divisions, reports racingpost.com. Phil Walker, the current online managing director, will be in charge of the newly formed division, while retail manager Nicola Frampton has been made redundant, however the two will work together during a six-month transition period. Chief Executive Ulrik Bengtsson said, "We will be immensely sad to say goodbye to Nicola Frampton when the time comes. Nicola has been with William Hill for ten years and has been a driving force on the executive team as well as being instrumental in reshaping and transforming our retail business." William Hill closed 713 betting shops last autumn after the government changed the rules around fixed odds betting terminals. In other changes, William Hill has appointed Charlotte Emery to their executive team to lead a Brand Centre of Excellence, while the Sweden office will be closed. In June, William Hill raised £224 million via share placement, which will be used to strengthen their balance sheet and boost their plans for expansion in the USA.
