Murwillumbah Clean Sweep Nearly Dunn & Dusted
Northern NSW-based Murwillumbah trainer Matt Dunn went within a whisker of training all six winners on a six race card at his local track on Thursday, however it's likely that it's the horse that went down in the last that'll stick in his memory, not the five that won. Dunn, who is likely to seek permanent Sydney stablling after serendipitously having a short-term stable in the city due to COVID-19, trained the first five winners on the card before saddling up the favourite in the last. Hogan's Dare, who'd been as long as $5.00, tumbled in markets to start at $2.05 in the last. Despite looking a likely winner in the last 100m, the photo said otherwise, leaving the leading country trainer to wonder, "What if?" Ironically, the winner that nosed Hogan's Dare out of creating history for his trainer was ridden by Dunn's apprentice Emily Atkinson. Ouch.
