Pike Goes For Home With a Big June

Tuesday, 30th June 2020

Champion WA jockey William Pike, despite being in a position to just cruise through the remainder of the season, has done anything but. According to rwwa.com.au, Pike, fondly referred to as the Wizard of the West, has instead put his foot to the pedal and is driving home his dominance with even more vigour. In June, Pike and trainers Grant and Alanna Williams (who train most of Bob Peters’ horses) head the lion’s share of victories, with the former claiming 22 wins to boost his seasonal haul to 210 wins. Of those, 119 have come in the metropolitan area. Behind Pike’s 22 in June is Kyra Yuill (13 wins). They are followed by Mitch Pateman, Jordan Turner, Maddi Derrick, Paul Harvey, Alan Kennedy, Jade McNaught and Chris Parnham, whose brother Steven won’t mind being further down the list; he was aboard probable WA Horse of the Year Kay Cee in her two Group victories during June. Grant and Alanna Williams (14 winners in June) require a further eight winners by the end of July to get to a century for the season.
