COVID-19 Fears for Jockeys Force Stand Down
Nine jockeys who rode at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday and who had engagements to ride at Gosford’s Tuesday meeting have been stood down. The precautionary move implemented by Racing NSW Stewards, which has forced trainers to scramble in a bid to find replacement riders, was brought about due to another jockey who rode at Rosehill displaying flu-like symptoms on Tuesday morning. According to punters.com, the nine riders comprise Andrew Adkins, Brenton Avdulla, Tim Clark, Sam Clipperton, Jason Collett, Robbie Dolan, Adam Hyeronimus, James Innes Jnr and Racel King. Although the jockey in question was tested on Tuesday morning for COVID-19, his or her name has not been released. The nine jockeys stood down have also been tested, with Chief Steward Marc Van Gestel advising, "The additional tests of the other nine riders have been performed on the basis that if the testing of the unnamed jockey comes back positive we will know where we stand.” Van Gestel indicated the test results could be known as early as Tuesday afternoon.
