Bitter-Sweet Week Concludes for McDonald
Gifted expat kiwi jockey James McDonald will remember last week for a long time, albeit for different reasons. The only rider since Darren Beadman to claim 100 metropolitan winners in a season, showed last year's feat to be no fluke when breaching the ton benchmark for a second consecutive season last Saturday aboard Godolphin's Kordia. It was a poetic victory for the stable, too, as stakes-winning juvenile Kordia had been absent from the track for a year after undergoing surgery to remove bone-chips. Unfortunately for McDonald, the celebrations were dampened somewhat by a 3-week suspension handed out by Racing NSW Stewards on Friday. That followed a charge of running and handling relating to beaten favourite Threeood where Stewards alleged the hoop had shown insufficient "vigour and purpose".
