Chapter and Verse On Song for Spear Chief
The Listed Spear Chief Handicap hasn't gone to a Queensland-trained horse for six years, and local trainer Desleigh Forster hopes Chapter and Verse (Rothsay-McFly, by Perugino) will change that on Saturday at Doomben, reports racingqueensland.com.au. The gelding will be ridden by Taylor Marshall, whose only other ride on the horse was when second in the Listed Ascot Handicap at Eagle Farm on June 13. "I hope he wins for Taylor as he's a good kid and he's been working hard," Forster said. "I liked the way the horse travelled for Taylor in the Ascot and this looks a nice race on paper with plenty of speed. He was being aimed for the original winter carnival races but when they were scrapped his campaign had to be rushed." Chapter and Verse missed qualification for the Gr1 Stradbroke, and hasn't won since November 2019, when he won the Gr3 George Moore Stakes over 1200m in an amazing blanket finish (see below). In total, he has won six from 25 and over $1million in prizemoney. Chapter and Verse was a $28,000 yearling at the 2016 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale where he was sold by Raheen Stud.
