Pricey Paprena Wins Fresh For New Trainer

Thursday, 25th June 2020

Paprena (Fastnet Rock-Paprika, by General Nediym) won the XXXX Gold Provincial & Country Maiden Handicap over 1100m at Hawkesbury on Tuesday for trainer Brad Widdup, reported racingnsw.com.au. A $500,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling graduate sold by Coolmore Stud to Adam Brandwood, Paprena was initially trained in Victoria by co-trainers Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr. Paprena had barrier issues on debut when favourite and ran seventh, then the owners decided to move her north to NSW. "Paprena played up at the jumpouts after she came to me, and I recommended to her owners that we send her to fellow Hawkesbury trainer Daniel Robinson for a couple of weeks," Widdup said. "Daniel is an excellent horseman who gave her barrier practice and did a good job. I trialled her at home over 800m last Monday." Paprena had a warning placed on her record after Hawkesbury's race where she once again was difficult to load. Widdup said, "It was good to get a win with her straight away, and I'm sure she can improve." Paprena is out of dual Listed winner Paprika, who is also the dam of Listed placed 2YO this season Canadian Spice (Vancouver). This is the family of Lord Von Costa, Streetcar Magic, and Streetcar Isabelle.
