Juvenile Snitzel Debutantes Miles Apart
Odd-Spot: As their sire cruises towards a fourth consecutive Australian General Sires Championship, two Snitzel fillies are due to face the starter for the first time on Wednesday, however they are both literally and figuratively miles apart from one another. It has nothing to do with their yearling prices, even though they were sold at different majors, and one cost $500,000 and the other $280,000. In racing, good horses make good names, not the other way around. At Canterbury in Sydney, regally-named Global Queen debuts for trainers Peter and Paul Snowden over 1250m after winning her two most recent trials, while 4,000km away at Belmont in Perth, the curiously-named Snickerdoodledandy, a racecaller's nightmare in a three-way go, has her first start (1000m) for trainer Dan Morton after winning her most recent trial. Boasting a deep blue-blooded pedigree, Global Queen is a full-sister to ARC Gr1 Diamond Stakes winner Summer Passage. Snickerdoodledandy boasts multiple group-performed Crafty Irna as her dam and Gr1 New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes winner Zirna, also crowned Singapore Horse of the Year, as her grandam.
