Kentucky's Gainesway Farm has secured the breeding rights to stand highly talented stallion prospect McKinzie. A four-time Gr1 winner by Street Sense, the US$3.4 million earner has finished in the first two in 14 of his 16 career starts, earning elite prizes at ages two, three and four. After winning the Gr1 Futurity Stakes as a juvenile, McKinzie grabbed a Gr1 double at three (the Pennsylvania Derby and Malibu Stakes). Winning the Gr1 Whitney Stakes as a 4YO (see below), the Bob Baffert-trained entire also finished runner-up last season in the Gr1 Breeders' Cup Classic, Gr1 Santa Anita Handicap, Gr1 Awesome Again Stakes and Gr1 Metropolitan Handicap. According to bloodhorse.com, Gainesway's general manager Brian Graves enthused, "His speed, versatility, and soundness make him an absolute standout. His 10 individual triple-digit Beyer figures are truly impressive." Out of a dual Gr1-placed mare who sold for US$2.7 million as a broodmare, McKinzie will continue to race in 2020, starting with early July's Gr1 Met Mile, as connections pursue US Horse of the Year honours.
