Spendthrift Celebrates a Big Weekend
Ahead of the forthcoming breeding season which will see Spendthrift Australia standing a collection of premium new US stallions, the weekend successes for parent, Spendthrift Kentucky, would have brought great cheer down under to general manager Garry Cuddy and his team. Trained by Aidan O’Brien, Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf hero Hit It A Bomb (War Front), who nearly shuttled to Spendthrift Australia in 2017, sired his first winner on the weekend when Weston scored a decisive maiden victory at Santa Anita Park. Leading into that milestone, high profile 3YO filly Gamine (Into Mischief) destroyed her rivals by an almost unbelievable 18.75-lengths in the Gr1 Acorn Stakes (1 mile) where she clocked the fastest race time in history. Into Mischief (Harlan’s Holiday), who stands for US$175,000 at Spendthrift Farm in Kentucky, is now the sire of 70 individual stakes-winners, among them 6 Grade 1 winners. Spendthrift Australia’s exciting new shuttlers are the multiple Gr1-winning pair Omaha Beach (War Front) and Vino Rosso (Curlin).
