Frankel Filly Adds Depth to English Oaks

Friday, 19th June 2020

Tuesday's Gr2 Ribblesdale Stakes (10 furlongs) at Royal Ascot has blow the UK's upcoming Gr1 Investec Oaks (12 furlongs) wide open. Following impressive wins by Love and Peaceful in the Gr1 English 1,000 Guineas (8 furlongs) and Gr1 Irish 1,000 Guineas (8 furlongs), respectively, there was a general presumption that it was a matter of which of Ballydoyle's armoury of 3YO fillies would lift the Classic trophy for Coolmore again. Going from maiden company to the Gr2 Ribblesdale, Frankel's daughter Frankly Darling dazzled as she provided trainer John Gosden with a meritorious fiftieth success at Royal Ascot. Markets reacted by quickly firming her into as short as $4.50 for the Classic. According to racingtv.com, Gosden said, "I think if I have an Oaks filly, it's her", while Frankie Dettori enthused, "This filly has got some lungs, let me tell you… It's all systems go, I guess, for Epsom and the Oaks."
