The Queen Celebrates Winning Her Own Race
Tactical (Toronado-Make Fast, by Makfi) became the twenty-fourth winner at Royal Ascot for Queen Elizabeth II overnight. Fittingly, the Windsor Castle Stakes was won by the Andrew Balding-trained 2YO colt while Her Royal Highness was in-abstentia at Windsor Castle. According to theguardian.com, the Queen – forced to miss Royal Ascot for the first time in over 60 years – celebrated her first home-bred since 2008 with the heavily-backed $4.50 favourite’s victory. It was also her first winner at Ascot since 2016. Portentuously, HRH’s 3YO First Receiver had gone very close earlier on the card when runner-up in the Hampton Court Stakes.
