Royal Ascot Winner for Atlantic Jewel
An impressive win in the Gr3 Hampton Court Stakes over 1800m has put Russian Emperor (Galileo-Atlantic Jewel, by Fastnet Rock) into Gr1 Epsom Derby claims, reports racingpost.com. The win gave trainer Aidan O’Brien a record-breaking fourth win in the race. Jockey Ryan Moore said, “He's a really nice colt and he's got a lovely attitude. His dam was very good, she was a champion in Australia. He won his maiden at Naas and it was very quick at Leopardstown the last day, it was hard to make up ground. He was very professional today and he showed a good attitude. I think ten furlongs is fine but he may get further. He's a colt to look forward to.” Russian Emperor has shifted from 20-1 to 8-1 in the Epsom Derby betting. “He was very professional and straightforward and showed a good attitude. I think he'll be a nice horse for the rest of the year. Whether he runs in the Derby will be decided, but he's given himself a chance,” said Moore. Atlantic Jewel (Fastnet Rock-Regard, by Zabeel) has had three named foals, all by Galileo with two to race, both winners. As a racemare in Australia, she won ten of her eleven starts including the Gr1 MRC Thousand Guineas, Gr1 All Aged Stakes, Gr1 Memsie Stakes and Gr1 Caulfield Stakes.
