Gosden Adds to His Royal Ascot Haul
Dual Sydney Gr1-winner Addeybb (Pivotal) was far from disgraced when finishing 3.75-lengths runner-up to an imperious Lord North (Dubawi) in the Gr1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes (10 furlongs) at Royal Ascot overnight. Backed in from 9-1 to 7-2 in traditional odds, Addeybb simply had no answer for the John Gosden-trained Lord North who spread-eagled a high-class field. It was a first elite success for last year’s promising Cambridgeshire Stakes winner. Gosden said after the win, “It does bring back memories of Halling (who was similarly unheralded before the Gr1 feature). “This is a very progressive horse. They went a very strong gallop today - there was no hiding place. They didn't stop for a breather - they kept going the whole way.” Strong favourite (6-4) Japan (Galileo) was disappointing at face value after missing the start.
