Apparent Swing Back To The 60s

Tuesday, 16th June 2020

Odd-spot: Conjuring up a potpourri of pyschedelic fibonacci numbers, there's something out there influencing European racehorse names and paying homage to the 60's Beatnik and Hippy age. And they're the preserve of some pretty good horses, too. Just in the last week alone we've been privvy to the deeds of Love winning the Gr1 English 1,000 Guineas, followed six days later by Peaceful's similar victory in the Gr1 Irish 1,000 Guineas. On Sunday it was the turn of €3.2 million Goffs Orby Yearling Sale-topper Do You Love Me to strut her stuff, the well related 3YO finishing third on debut at Newmarket. If connections of the latter have any groovy affinity with the Make Love Not War movement, they'll already have booked Do You Love Me into Yes Yes Yes for her first sleep-over. Meanwhile, the trend appears to have caught on down-under too, with Love Tap due to debut at Nowra on Tuesday. Perhaps the Beatles were right – all you need is love.
