Team Edmonds On Top Again in Brisbane
On a superb day of racing at Eagle Farm in Brisbane, father and son partnership Toby and Trent Edmonds reinforced that they are a growing force to be reckoned with. Claiming their sixth winter feature over the weekend – no small feat given a dramatically reduced Queensland Carnival – the team landed a Group 2 that might have given them more of a boost than Tyzone’s Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap only a week ago. That’s because Vanna Girl’s Gr2 The Roses victory brings the prospect of having a genuine Caulfield Cup and/or Cox Plate runner into focus. Ridden again by Brad Stewart, who has similarly enjoyed a successful carnival, Vanna’s Girl managed to overcome a poor barrier for the second time in two weeks after doing likewise over Doomben’s mile. Sold by Vinery Stud at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale for $40,000, Vanna Girl and runner-up Cellarmaid are by former Argentine-bred Vinery stallion Husson (Hussonet) who now stands at Aquis Farm’s Canungra property in Queensland. Whatever direction the stable maps out for Vanna Girl’s spring journey, she’s announced herself as a serious obstacle for rival stables to overcome. "We will probably concentrate on the fillies and mares races but she will be entered for everything," Trent Edmonds revealed.
