Vic Country Racing Announcement Due Friday
In what is expected to be a filip for country racing participants in Victoria, racing.com reports that Country Racing Victoria chief executive Scott Whiteman will release updated details on regional features on Friday. There are 17 Country Cups scheduled to be run in the Garden State during the Spring and, although crowd attendance and potential concomitant numbers are yet to be ironed-out, Whiteman is hopeful that “most, if not all” will be held. Cognisant of the importance of the Cup to their respective communities, Whiteman acknowledged, “If you had said to me a few weeks ago, ‘would you plan to have all the country cups conducted?’ I would have said ‘no because we won’t have crowds’ but as the days continued, our optimism does grow. Obviously we will have to heed the advice of government and Racing Victoria but, at this point in time, the vast majority of cups should be able to be run.” Whiteman noted, “They hold some of those communities together. It is absolutely vital that we be able to conduct those if at all possible. The community cups out there are so important to the fabric of racing and those towns."
