Vanna Girl On Mission To Boost Spring Ratings
Exciting 3YO filly Vanna Girl (Husson-Logan's Choice, by Redoute's Choice) will tackle the Gr2 The Roses at Eagle Farm on Saturday as part of a mission to boost her ratings ahead of a Melbourne Spring campaign, reports racingqueensland.com.au. She has won her past three races in succession including the Listed Pam O'Neill Stakes at the end of May 2020. The Roses is normally the traditional lead-up to the Gr1 Queensland Oaks but is the main staying feature for fillies this year after the Queensland Oaks was scrapped due to COVID-19. The training partnership of Toby and Trent Edmonds was disappointed when the Queensland Oaks was abandoned as it had been earmarked as Vanna Girl's main winter target. "She's going to the paddock after The Roses and if she wins, we'll prep her for the spring in Melbourne," Trent Edmonds said. "The Matriarch Stakes is a fillies and mares race which should suit her and we can aim a bit higher if she wins The Roses. It's a Gr2 race and is a good target for her at this stage. Her rating is high enough now for a Gr2 but a win in The Roses will lift her rating a bit more which will help her get into some of the bigger southern races if we decide to head that way." Bought from the Vinery Stud draft at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale for $40,000, Vanna Girl, who has drawn wide again for Saturday, has won six of her nine starts, including two stakes races for earnings of $269,800.
