Stars' Siblings Strut Their Stuff in Europe
While Australian racing fans wait to watch the debut of Winx's half-sister Covent Gardens, two of the best European racehorses of recent times have had their siblings show that they, too, have inherited some of their respective family's affinity for racing. Both have a strong connection to Australia: at Chelmsford, north-east of London, the Roger Varian-trained Foorat (Dubawi) made short work of her opposition and is being aimed at Royal Ascot's Gr1 Coronation Stakes. She is a full-sister to multiple Gr1-winner Benbatl, winner of the MRC's Gr1 Caulfield Stakes (see below) and runner-up when giving Winx a scare in the Gr1 Cox Plate at Moonee Valley. Meanwhie, at Naas in Ireland, dual Gr1-winning Deep Impact sire-son Saxon Warrior, who shuttles to Coolmore in the Hunter Valley, was in the news courtesy of his War Front half-sister. Raced by high profile owner Susan Magnier, gorgeously-pedigreed More Beautiful scorched to a 3.5-length debut win in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden just before being elevated to favourite for Royal Ascot's Gr2 Queen Mary Stakes.
