Even The Experts Can Get It Wrong

Wednesday, 10th June 2020

In a twist that shows even experts can sometimes get it wrong, a GB-bred son of Darley's powerhouse reverse shuttler Exceed and Excel is now rated Ireland's best sprinter following a devastating race return in Naas's Listed Woodlands Stakes. The Gr1 King's Stand Stakes-bound 4YO Sceptical, who has raced five times for four wins, was sold as a tried horse in England last August by Godolphin where he fetched the miserly sum of £2,800. Ironically, and a great confidence booster for Australian owners who believe in omens, the first of 18 Godolphin horses in its inaugural online presence in Inglis' June (Early) Online Sale is also by Exceed and Excel. Named Auxin, at only his second start he finished fourth, beaten just over 2-lengths in the Listed Blue Diamond Preview behind I Am Immortal and Microphone (Godolphin's subsequent Champion 2YO) – both now in demand sires. History shows Godolphin leaves a respectable amount of meat on the bone for tried horse buyers, and while this group of geldings (mostly 3YOs) might not include a future champion sprinter, there are bound to be some genuine bargains on offer. The draft's first lot will go through the metaphorical sales ring at 3pm this afternoon.
