Ups and Downs for Marquand at Headquarters
Saturday’s win aboard Prague in the Gr3 Canonbury Stakes (1100m) at Randwick provided visiting English jockey Tom Marquand with a quick-fire juvenile Group double after he had guided Magic Millions 2YO Classic heroine Away Game (Snitzel) to a facile win in the Gr3 Widden Stakes (1100m), however the ups and downs of the industry saw the high turn into a low when his mount Ronstar, who was subsequently euthanased, fell after clipping heels in a later race. Marquand suffered a heavy fall which saw him sent to hospital as a precaution after complaining of a sore neck and shoulder. AAP reports Racing NSW doctor John Saxon noting of Marquand, "He's also showing some signs of concussion so I am organising for him to go up to the hospital and get assessed.” Marquand was subsequenty cleared on Sunday of any broken bones. The jockey’s insight into the two 2YO features will be valuable to the high-flying Maher-Eustace stable as Prague’s win was run in quicker time with the last 600m almost a second faster.
