Heart of Puissance Might Miss Autumn Targets
Co-trainer Dave Eustace told racing.com that Heart of Puissance (Puissance de Lune) has recovered from a minor muscle strain and is back in full work, but needs everything to go his way to make it to looming targets such as the Gr1 Australian Guineas over 1600m, and $5 million All-Star Mile. "He just had a little bit of muscle soreness and has been at the beach for 10 days so time will be a little bit tight for those early season targets," Eustace explained. "They are certainly not off the table, but we just need everything to go right from now on." Heart Of Puissance won his first two starts in the country and then was spelled after an eye-catching performance for third in the Gr2 Sandown Guineas over 1600m in November. As at 4pm Monday, the 3YO had 2,281 votes in the All Star Mile, putting him in fifth. The top 10 vote earners gain automatic entry into the March 15 race at Caulfield. "He still needs to furnish and he is still trying to work everything out," Eustace said. "Quirky is unfair. He's just immature all around. There is a lot of natural ability there and we still think whatever we can achieve in the prep, there's a lot more to come…"
