Blue Army Juveniles Starting To March
At around this time last year, the powerful Godolphin operation, and its ancillary training wing run by Anthony Freeman from Pinecliff on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, marched to the beat of a steady drum. Dominating the feature 2YO landscape, almost at will, victories included Exhilarates (Magic Millions 2YO Classic), Lyre (Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes), Pin Sec (Black Opal Stakes) and Kiamichi, Microphone (subsequent Gr1 Sires Produce winner) & Lyre filling the first three placings in the Gr1 Golden Slipper. While Godolphin does own this year’s Magic Millions place-getter Conceited, starting on Saturday the build-up to the Blue Diamond Stakes begins in earnest. Freedman saddles Godolphin’s Hanseatic in the Blue Diamond Preview for colts & geldings, where the son of Street Boss is a $2.50 favourite. Conversely, in the fillies division a race later, James Cummings is responsible for promising Medaglia d’Oro filly Geist, who is rated a $9.50 chance in an open race behind $3.50 favourite Fresh. Meanwhile, James Cummings goes into Friday night’s Gr2 Australia Stakes confident that afore-mentioned Microphone is primed to be in the finish of the Moonee Valley sprint under lights.
