Vandyke Green Lights Alligator Blood for Melbourne
Trainer David Vandyke has confirmed that boom gelding Alligator Blood (All Too Hard-Lake Superior, by Encosta De Lago) will target the Victorian Autumn Carnival, revealing a three race campaign that kicks off with the Gr3 CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) on Feb 15 (where he could clash with Catalyst) and culminates with the All Star Mile a month later, with a tilt at the Gr1 Australian Guineas (1600m) in between. “I'll give him either a serious gallop on the course proper or a trial up here (Queensland) before we go to Melbourne," Vandyke told RSN. “The CS Hayes [is] a beautiful race for him because at set weights and penalties, he still hasn't won a Gr1 or Gr2, so he gets in only 1kg over the limit.” The popular winner of the Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) earlier this month has come through the race (and, as noted by punters.com, the onerous trip to the races on the day) in superb order, and Van Dyke didn’t have any difficulty deciding to continue his preparation. “I thought I'd give him 10 days and just forget about immediate future plans," Vandyke said. “Looking at him now and seeing the way he's come through that run, it's an easy call. He's in good shape and he's ready.” Alligator Blood currently leads the voting for the All-Star Mile.
