Surf & Turf Provides Balance for Clipperton
Suffering from the burnout that wall to wall racing can cause, quality jockey Sam Clipperton has been on a self-enforced break since last September to recharge his batteries. According to dailytelegraph.com.au, the accomplished jockey has found inspiration from multiple champion rider Damien Oliver, long known for his love of wave riding. Following an 8-day surfing trip to a remote destination in the Phillipine islands as part of an attempt to switch off from the hustle and bustle, Clipperton has taken a leaf out of Oliver's book by emulating the Victorian hoop who invited him to join him for some surfing. It seems to have worked, with Oliver advising him to not allow racing to become all consuming, and to create a balanced approach to his career. It has provided Clipperton with the motivation to get back on the horse, so to speak. Hoping to make his return to race-riding from early next month, Clipperton has been riding track work for the past two weeks and will be engaged at Thursday's barrier trials in Sydney.
