Soqrat Missing from Final Gr1 Sun-Met Field
The field for Cape Town's most prestigious race, the weight-for-age Gr1 Sun Metropolitan (2000m), has been finalised. Unfortunately, Australian-bred multiple Gr1 winner Soqrat (Epaullete-Elzeeza, by Hussonet) won't be there after he was scratched following a below par performance in the Gr1 L'Ormarins Queen's Plate at Kenilworth a week ago which prompted trainer Mike de Kock to send him to the paddock. Race favourite Hawwaam, who will be ridden by Anton Marcus, is having his last start in South Africa, with the Sheikh Hamdan-owned Silvano entire being sent to England via Mauritius two weeks after Saturday's race. Last year's winner Rainbow Bridge will be ridden by well known Aidan O'Brien jockey Ryan Moore, while 2019 runner-up Do It Again is also expected to feature prominently.
