Sunlight Begins Autumn Build Up

Monday, 13th January 2020

It’s taken longer than trainers Tony and Calvin McEvoy would have liked, but elite sprinter Sunlight (Zoustar) is finally back in light work as she builds towards her autumn targets. According to racing.com, the 4YO mare won’t be ready in time for a defence of her Gr1 Newmarket crown due to the delay caused by a near hind leg splint bone injury sustained in a paddock accident. Tony McEvoy revealed that Sunlight, who has been back in the stable for a few weeks,  will miss the early autumn sprints. “It just might mean she will end up in Sydney for her main targets and then there is always the option and the dream of going to Royal Ascot with her as well,” acknowledged McEvoy. “We have ramped up her rehabilitation and she is now performing light exercise with some daily walking. She seems to be enjoying it and she is in great condition and each week we will just progressively step up the intensity of her training from here on.”
