Negotiations Ongoing For Stallion Churchill Downs

Wednesday, 8th January 2020

Australian-bred sire Churchill Downs (Danehill) is still alive after being caught up in a saga in Libya that saw 6 stallions stolen from the country’s leading stud farm by a terrorist group. According to dailytelegraph.com.au, negotiations are continuing in an attempt to have Churchill Downs and the other five stallions returned after they were taken from Al Shaab Stud. The principal of the stud farm, Dr Amad Shaab, confirmed “There are figures from Tarhuna City that (are trying to) persuade the militia to return the horses. They placed the horses in an abandoned human clinic in the Abana district, Tarhuna.” The situation has been particularly upsetting for Sky Channel’s Lizzie Jelfs who was Churchill Downs’ stable manager at one point. The remaining 30 horses at Al Shaab are reportedly being kept alive by Nigerian workers who are sneaking feed and water to them.
