Sun Shines On McEvoy Duo For 2YO Classic Trial
Trainers Tony and Calvin McEvoy will head towards Saturday-week's lucrative Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) on the Gold Coast with a spring in their step after the stable's two entrants drew well in one of Saturday's two final lead-ups to the $2 million sprint. According to AAP, each of Lopez and Bribery received quality marbles, with both jumping within three of the fence in the $125,000 Aquis Gold Pearl 2YO Fillies (1100m). Like the McEvoy-trained MM 2YO Classic winner and subsequent star Gr1 sprinter Sunlight, Lopez is by Widden Stud's crack stallion Zoustar, and Tony McEvoy favours the $500,000 purchase slightly after she was an unlucky third when favourite on debut at the same track a fortnight ago. "She is better than that and had no luck when she was slowly away," McEvoy said after the filly was held up after missing the kick. Meanwhile, eligible for an additional $500,000 if she makes the 2YO Classic Field due to being owned by an all-female syndicate, undefeated Morphettville debut winner Bribery has the right credentials for the big feature, being out of a half-sister to previous race winner Real Surreal. She was a a $110,000 Magic Millions purchase.
