More Gold Ahead For The Coast

Friday, 3rd January 2020

Meanwhile, ahead of Saturday-week's $10 million Magic Millions raceday at the Gold Coast, the race club has big plans in the pipeline. According to dailytelegraph.com.au, this Saturday's inaugural $1.5 million program is just the start of an exciting new period for the progressive club which has a very strong long term partnership with Aquis. "We think there is a lot of viability in having a Saturday to Saturday carnival. There is so much that goes on during Magic Millions week and this meeting is a great way to launch it," CEO Richard Lines said. Pivotal to the future growth of the GCTC is a likely $38 million cash injection for key infrastructure upgrades, of which $5 million will come from the club and the remainder from Racing Queensland. These include "the construction of a new synthetic track, upgrades to the B-grass training track, an infield tunnel, lights for night racing, resurfacing of the course proper and potentially widening the racing surface from 25m to 28m". Yet to be formally ticked-off, the expected improvements would see a major boost to horse numbers and trainers at the track where future plans also include 150-room hotel and 240 residential apartments overlooking the track and the city's world famous Gold Coast skyline. All going to schedule, the process will get underway following next year's Magic Millions raceday.
