Million Dollar Colt to Step Up to Listed Level
Dragon Leap (Pierro-Pontiana, by Redoute's Choice) won on debut over 1400m a month ago, and will make the step up to stakes company when he colt contests the Listed Trevor Eagle Memorial Stakes over 1500m on Saturday. Sold by Coolmore Stud for $1,050,000 to Hermitage Thoroughbreds, the 3YO colt is trained by Lance O'Sullivan and Andrew Scott. Dragon Leap is a half-brother to Gr1 Randwick Guineas winner Inference (So You Think), out of group placed winner Pontiana (Redoute's Choice), who is herself a full-sister to Listed winner Grand Jardin and group-placed winner Liberty's Choice. Their dam, Liberty Rose (Royal Academy), won the Listed Morphettville Guineas, so this is a family stacked full of black type. Golden Slipper winner Pierro continues to prove the sire-making legend around that race correct, having left 20 stakes-winners including Gr1 winners Levendi, Pierata, Arcadia Queen, Regal Power, Shadow Hero, and Pinot.
