Tassie's Newmarket Draws a Bumper Field

Wednesday, 27th November 2019

The mainland success of Tasmanian gallopers in the past two years, in particular, means that nobody takes them lightly any longer. Back on the Apple Isle, at the start of the popular Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival, this evening's Listed Newmarket Handicap is a great advert for the quality thoroughbreds on the island state. Carrying $100,000 in prizemoney, the 1200m Launceston race is headed by Twitchy Frank at around $4.20. Although meeting last start conqueror Gee Gee Secondover again, a 6kg pull at the weights is compelling for the ever reliable Adam Trinder-trained 5YO mare. Others at single figure quotes include Scott Brunton's pair Hellova Street and Lord da Vinci, I'm Wesley and Blaze Forth. Meanwhile, one race earlier, Star Thoroughbreds' high-class filly Deroche is odds-on to make it 5 wins and 2 placings from just 7 starts.
