Frequent Flyer Takes Travel in His Stride
For a young horse, the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained 3YO colt Dubious has shown a phenomenal capacity for absorbing travel around Australia. By Arrowfield Stud stallion Not a Single Doubt, the Aquis-owned sophomore is set to start on Saturday in Perth's Gr1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m). According to racing.com, this will be the fifth interstate sojourn for the $350,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast graduate from the Kitchwin Hills draft. After winning the Gr3 Breeders Plate on debut, Dubious was runner-up in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic at just his third start, and placed in the Gr2 Todman Stakes before finding the Heavy track not to his liking in the Golden Slipper. Also the winner of Doomben's Gr2 Champagne Classic (1200m) during the Queensland Winter Carnival, where he finished just out of the frame against older horses in the Gr1 Kingsford-Smith Cup (1300m), he was recently runner-up behind Dalasan, beaten less than a length, in the Gr2 Danehill Stakes at Flemington (1200m). The only 3YO in the weight-for-age Winterbottom Stakes, Dubious will be ridden by Craig Williams. Maher said, "His sole aim is to get a Gr1 for his stallion career. He's a very genuine horse, he's got form around all the good horses and hopefully he can get that Gr1."
