Four Australian-Born Runners in SAf Gr1

Champion 2YO Colt of 2017/18 and triple Gr1 winner Soqrat (Epaulette-Elzeeza, by Hussonet) heads the field for Saturday's Gr1 Turffontein Summer Cup over 2000m. Soqrat is a homebred for Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum and is trained by Mike de Kock. The 4YO entire is joined in the full field by three other Australian-born gallopers, including last start Listed winner Atyaab (Dundeel-Sylvaner, by Danasinga). 2015-foaled Atyaab has won four of his twelve starts including the Gr1 Cape Derby as a 3YO, and was sold by Arrowfield Stud for $260,000 at the 2017 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale. Infamous Fox (Foxwedge-French, by Nadeem) has won eight races in his career to date including the 2019 Listed Engen Performance Stakes over 1600m, and comes into this race with mixed form, although he was third in the Gr2 Johannesburg Spring Challenge two starts ago. Infamous Fox was a $25,000 yearling at the 2016 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale, offered by Glastonbury Farms, and he was onsold as a yearling in South Africa for R1 million. The other Australian-born horse in the field is Roy Had Enough (Pierro-Queens Plaza, by Elusive Quality), who has run fourth behind Soqrat in his last two starts. Roy Had Enough is the winner of six races including this year's Gr3 Scottsville Track and Ball Derby over 2400m, and he was sold by Element Hill for $95,000 to World Wide Bloodstock at the 2016 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
