No Caviar For Prince's Connections

Thursday, 14th November 2019

It's never easy when your mum was an undefeated global champion, and there was no caviar yesterday for the connections of beautifully bred 4YO entire Prince of Caviar (Sebring-Black Caviar, by Bel Esprit) at Bendigo. Sent to post a prohibitively short-priced $1.60 against four opposition over 1100m in his first start since winning a 1300m maiden over a year ago at the same course. The Team Hawkes-trained horse looked a winning prospect halfway down the straight, however his condition gave out in the concluding stages as second elect Mumbles, who'd stalked him from the top of the turn, swept past. Whilst the result wouldn't have pleased favourite backers, Prince of Caviar should strip fitter for the run and will likely come on at his next start as he steps up over a bit more ground.
