Global-Trotter Enzo's Lad to Resume Today
Dual Gr1 WRC Telegraph Handicap winner Enzo's Lad (Testa Rossa-Sheerama, by Catbird) will resume in today's Gr3 Stewards Handicap over 1200m, in his first start since his Royal Ascot campaign. After winning his second Telegraph Handicap in January 2019, Enzo's Lad had one more start in New Zealand before embarking on an ambitious international trip. First up, he ran in the Gr1 HKJC Chairman's Sprint Prize, failing to trouble the judges. Sent to Royal Ascot by trainer Michael Pitman, Enzo's Lad found the company too strong in both the Gr1 King's Stand Stakes and Gr1 Diamond Jubilee. At the time, nzherald.co.nz reported that Michael Pitman said, "These are very, very good horses, some of the best in the world. It didn't help when the rain came today and affected the track because he likes it rock hard. So yeah, we are disappointed he couldn't finish in the first half of the field but we aren't disheartened. We are thrilled we came and the owners have had the time of their lives. So there are no regrets." A 7YO gelding, Enzo's Lad has had 31 starts for 7 wins, and 8 placings for earnings of NZ$393,000 – an excellent return on his purchase price of $15,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
