Bahrain Draws Gosden For Inaugural Feature

Tuesday, 12th November 2019

John Gosden is one of a few UK trainers testing the waters with Gr2 placegetter Turgenev (Dubawi-Tasaday, by Nayef), as he lines him up for the inaugural Bahrain International Trophy (2000m) on November 22. The classy son of Dubawi has shown plenty of upside in Gr1 company this season (including 2nd in the Gr2 Celebration Mile at Goodwood), and is well-deserving of a tilt at the £200k purse. Sheikh Salman bin Rashid Al Khalifa, executive director of Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing club, told the Racing Post: "We're hosting one race this year and it's definitely going to be a stepping stone towards bigger events in the future… Dubai is around the corner and a lot of people send their horses there during the winter to race, so we thought it would work really nicely for people to have another option in the region." The weight-for-age race has attracted plenty of European interest, as well four other British contenders.
