At Riccarton in New Zealand, The Oaks Stud's 5-time Gr1-winning & 5-time Gr1-placed stallion Darci Brahma (Danehill-Grand Echezeaux, by Zabeel) added an elite race success when outstanding 3YO gelding Catalyst (Darci Brahma-Evana, by Entrepreneur) exploded clear to take out the NZ$500,000 Gr1 NZ 2000 Guineas by a decisive 2.3-lengths over another 3YO son of Darci Brahma in Harlech with Sherwood Forest a further 1.5-lengths adrift in third. Clearly one of the most exciting gallopers on the NZ racing scene, and with untapped potential, The Oaks Stud home-bred Catalyst took his imposing record to 5 wins (including the Listed Sir Colin Meads Trophy & Gr2 Hawke's Bay Guineas) from 6 starts for $434,350 in earnings. Catalyst springs from an outstanding NZ family which includes Gr1 Otaki Maori RC Stakes winner Devise (also by Darci Brahma) and her Gr2 Let's Elope Stakes winning Zabeel half-sister Zurella. Catalyst's third dam is Gr3 Sweet Embrace Stakes winner Shadea, dam of Gr1 winning brothers Lonhro and Niello.
