Thursday Black-Type Schedule

Thursday, 7th November 2019

The third of four magnificent race days across a week at Flemington, today's Laides Day is highlighted by the pinnacle of Melbourne's staying event for 3YO fillies, the Gr1 Kennedy Oaks. Held pretty late in the day, at 5.50pm, it's a race with the great unknown of how the sophomore fillies will handle the extra distance of the 2500m journey. Miami Bound and Vegas Jewel were panels better than their opposition in the Wakeful Stakes (2000m) on Saturday, and get similar soft conditions again, although the latter has a poor draw. Like Miami Bound, Gamay defeated Vegas Jewel in the Ethereal Stakes. Complicating matters is that Moonlight Maid, who finished runner-up to Victoria Derby fancy Soul Patch, defeated Miami Bound at Flemington over a mile where the daughter of Puissance de Lune came with a whithering finish. The verdict? Vegas Jewel is, like Surprise Baby, by former Melbourne Cup winner Shocking. Despite the barrier, she just looks the type who'll keep finding over the added journey. Whilst every effort is made to ensure information and the below race times (in Australian Eastern Summer Time order) are accurate, please consult official race cards if certainty is required.
