Aristia to Tackle Mackinnon Stakes

Thursday, 7th November 2019

Gr1 VRC Oaks-winning mare Aristia (Lonhro-Nakaaya, by Tiger Hill) will head to the Gr1 Mackinnon Stakes over 2000m on Saturday, reports racenet.com.au. Trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra originally planned to back up Aristia in the Gr2 Matriarch Stakes, but after the way she recovered after her second to Melody Belle (Commands-Meleka Belle, by Iffraaj) in the Gr1 Empire Rose Stakes, they are aiming higher. “She looked better Monday morning that she did on Saturday before the race,” Zahra said. “The soft track helped with her jarring but she’s a better horse on top of the ground anyway. The program was to have her better on the last day and she looks spot-on.” Aristia will have to take on nine time-Gr1 winner Melody Belle again after her managing owner John Galvin confirmed she’d also head to the Mackinnon. “She (Melody Belle) might have peaked there the other day but then she might be a freak,” Zahra said. “But our horse has done really well and will be very competitive again.”
