Jockeys Trust The Recipient of Key Auction
The famous purple, white and green silks worn by Michelle Payne to win the 2015 Melbourne Cup on Prince Of Penzance (and latterly by the lead actor in the movie 'Ride Like A Girl'), together with a pair of Hugh Bowman's breeches, will be auctioned at the Melbourne Cup Call Of The Card on Monday, with proceeds going to the National Jockeys Trust. AAP reports that the hugely recognisable set of colours are also signed by many members of Payne's family and the cast of the movie, and Bowman's breeches are decorated by the signatures of the eight jockeys who rode in Winx's historic fourth Cox Plate victory last year. Both pieces of memorabilia are expected to raise considerable funds for the organisation, who provide financial and practical support for jockeys and their families who have suffered hardship because of injury or the death of a rider. In addition, last Saturday's Gr1 Golden Eagle at Rosehill donated 10% of the $7.5 million prize money to charities nominated by the connections of each horse, and the NJT will benefit from $410,000 as they were the connected charity to the eventual winner, Kolding.
