At Flemington in Melbourne, Shadai Stallion Stations' recently deceased Champion Sire Deep Impact (Sunday Silence-Wind In Her Hair, by Alzao) captured a posthumous Gr1 victory when 6YO entire Fierce Impact (Deep Impact-Keiai Gerber, by Smarty Jones) took out consecutive Gr1 wins in the space of 14 days. In an ultra competitive penultimate race on the Derby card, the $2,000,000 Cantala (1600m), Fierce Impact made his run on straightening as part of a wall of chances, but proved toughest in holding off 5YO Irish born entire Fifty Stars by 0.1-length with 5YO British-bred gelding Cascadian a mere 0.2-lengths away in third. The victory took Fierce Impact's record to 5 wins (including the Gr1 Toorak Handicap & Gr3 Summer Cup) and 8 placings (including the Listed Goodwood Cocked Hat Stakes, Listed Scone Cup & Gr3 Bill Ritchie Handicap) from 21 starts for $1,816,730 in earnings. Further cementing the stallion credentials that were already rock solid as a Gr1-winning son of breed shaping entire Deep Impact, jockey Craig Williams was congratulatory post race in the mounting yard, "Credit to the horse. Credit to the stable who did a great job. I've been lucky enough to ride him."
