Royal Ascot Possible For Norwegian Galloper
Norweigian trainer Niels Petersen could have a prospective Royal Ascot horse on his hands in the form of Square De Luynes (Manduro-Power Girl, by Dashing Blade), 4YO winner of the the Gr3 Stockholm Cup on Sunday and potentially one of the most talented horses to emerge from Scandinavia in recent history. His win at Bro Park (Stockholm) was emphatic; he blitzed his (international) rivals by 7-lengths and, according to Petersen, still has plenty of improvement to come. "He's still not 100 per cent there yet," the trainer disclosed to Racing Post. "He's still a little bit unfurnished and although he looks magnificent when he gallops, when you're close up you can see he's still lacking a bit. He's lacking race experience, hasn't had to battle much and you don't know how far he can go." Jockey Robert Havlin concurred: "He beat that field decisively on ground that was probably quick enough for him. I think if he went anywhere in Europe at the moment he'd be a solid Gr2 horse. He's definitely one who will improve because he's mentally still a bit of a baby and there's definitely more to come."
