Grahame Begg Nabs First Melbourne 2YO Winner

Wednesday, 25th September 2019

Trainer Grahame Begg has led in the first Melbourne juvenile winner of the season. At Flemington’s mid-week meeting on Wednesday, in an all-filly finish, Begg saddled relatively friendless 2YO Mildred (Hinchinbrook) to score over the straight 900m from Divine Caprice (Sebring) and Cut It Out (Kuroshio). The winner had been beaten over 4-lengths when third in a 800m barrier trial at Cranbourne a week ago on a heavy surface. Melbourne’s first seasonal 2YO feature is on 5 October, also at Flemington, when the Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes will be run over 1000m.
