Quick Look at The Valley for Stokes Star

Tuesday, 24th September 2019

Among a number of high profile horses granted a gallop at Moonee Valley on Monday morning was the Philip Stokes-trained Mr Quickie (Shamus Award-Special Favour, by General Nediym), who had an 1800m gallop there ahead of his next start in the Gr1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on October 5. The Queensland Derby winner turned heads last start with his dazzling finish for third in the in the Gr1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m), and his Turnbull performance will decide the next step in his preparation - the Caulfield Cup (2400m), in which he has been installed as outright favourite, with a weight of 53kg) or the Cox Plate (2040m). Stokes was happy with gelding's work this morning, telling AAP "It was just for a look at the track and a trip away. He did everything we wanted him to do. He changed lead legs a few times, just looking around but he seemed to be okay on the surface and his work was nice."
