At Hastings in New Zealand on Saturday, deceased Darley stallion Commands (Danehill-Cotehele House, by My Swanee) celebrated yet another posthumous elite triump when his sensational 5YO daughter Melody Belle (Commands-Meleka Belle, by Iffraaj) scored by the easisest 2.8-lengths for trainer Jamie Richards in the $200,000 Gr1 Windsor Park Plate (1600m). Runner-up in the weight-for-age feature was 7YO gelding Sultan of Swing (Bachelor Duke-Queen Cha Cha, by High Chaparral), ahead of 5YO gelding Mongolian Marshal (Hgh Chaparral-Ardeche, by Dehere). Opie Bosson kept the champion mare quiet until starting to release the breaks heading to the turn where she went past the field with the ease of a knife going through butter. A $57,500 yearling at the 2016 NZB NYSS, New Zealand’s reigning Horse of the Year Melody Belle looked imperious in taking her tally of Gr1 wins to eight as her earnings in New Zealand approach $2 million.
